Mill Ave. is losing it's ASU ties to Tempe Marketplace. One of the most popular things to do in Arizona and on Mill Ave. before Harkins moved, was to go have lunch or dinner on Mill Ave., and then go see a new blockbuster movie. So now that Mill Ave. no longer has a Real Movie Theater, I don't think it has any day attractions for 20 and under aged people like Tempe Marketplace has with Dave & Busters, a Real Harkins Movie Theater(which moved to Tempe Marketplace from Mill Ave to make more money, can't blame them for that, and at least they kept their art theater on Mill Ave.), and As You Wish Pottery. That's 3 businesses more than I can count on Mill Ave. that attracts people aged 20 and under to do something, and from those places they go to eat at the surrounding restaurants and they shop at the surrounding retail shops. So when these ASU underclassmen turn 21, do you really think they're going to go to these grungy bars on Mill Ave. like the upperclassmen do now? The underclassmen will have no connection with Mill Ave., because they have been riding the Free Orbit to Tempe Marketplace every week the last couple of years, so they will more likely go to the bars at Tempe Marketplace like San Felipe and Cadillac Ranch, or Scottsdale. So then all Mill Ave. becomes to 20 and under aged people, is 2 unique clothing shops(American Apparel & Urban Outfitters), 1 Real Hair Salon(Mood Swings), 2 Casual Food Restaurants(Five Guys & Jimmy John's), and then that's it. So in short, Mill Ave. needs to have businesses to attract the 20,000-30,000 ASU underclassmen that live 2 miles from Mill Ave. If Mill Ave. doesn't start to get real businesses, not gimmicks, not events, but those day-in and day-out businesses that draw the young people, then you we will see bars and more restaurants go under on Mill Ave., because if your not growing your dying.
